If you have young children, there are at least a million reasons why you should get them involved in art. One of the most important reasons is that it can actually help your children develop many of the skills they will need to be successful in school and in life. Research shows that art can actually help children in the areas of language development, motor skills and even cultural awareness. If you're not sure how to get your children excited about art, here are three suggestions to get you started.
Encourage Arts and Crafts
One of the simplest ways to instill an appreciation for art in your children is to encourage arts and crafts time. Even young children will enjoy sitting down and learning how to express themselves using finger paints, crayons and even other types of art supplies. You can even use items found in your kitchen cabinets to create fun art projects for your kids. Macaroni and pretzel twists are just two of foods that your kids can use to create art with. As you encourage arts and crafts, your children will grow up with the idea that art can be a fulfilling part of their life.
If you're waiting until your kids get older to introduce them to art museums, don't. It's never too early to expose your kids to art museums. By starting when your children are young, you can help them identify the type of art that they enjoy. Once you've isolated the type of art your children enjoy, use that information to locate art museums that display that particular type of art. Many children's museums have classes that children can participate in while they're there. These hands-on classes are a great way to provide your kids with guided exposure to the arts.
Enter Art Contests
Contests are a great way to get your kids actively involved in art. Most schools have art contests throughout the year that your kids can participate in. Even before your kids start school, they can get involved in art contests through local stores and civic events. If your kids enjoy drawing on sidewalks with chalk, you might want to consider entering them in a local sidewalk art contest. It's a good way to help your kids get involved in civic activities and showcase their art skills.
Children should be exposed to art from a young age. If you're not sure how to get your kids involved in art, use the simple tips provided above.Share
